CHI Teen GroupThe Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is changing the paradigm of prenatal care by creating a model of group health care delivery. Prenatal healthcare is delivered to women in groups of eight to twelve in sessions that are facilitated – rather than taught – by a doctor or midwife. The model creates a climate of support and confidence among women and has demonstrated significant reduction of preterm birth rates, low birth weight babies and rapid repeat pregnancies, while increasing breastfeeding rates and patient satisfaction over traditional prenatal care.

SGP’s grant supports CHI’s effort to deepen the model’s use in current Centering locations, extend the model to large healthcare systems, and ensure sustained high quality implementation.
