MA Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children
Grant Size: $2,000,000
Grantee Since: 2004
Grant Objective: Launch in Massachusetts, evaluation.

Connecting Families prevents child abuse and neglect before it occurs by befriending struggling families and connecting parents with the community supports and basic resources they need to take good care of their children. Case managers reach out to families who child welfare workers identify as highly stressed, isolated, lacking in basic needs, or who for other reasons are at high risk of further involvement with the child welfare system. The three year MSPCC pilot served 1,000 families and found that families who were able to complete the program were one-third less likely than the comparison group to have a supported child abuse and neglect allegation.
